Kat DeLuna is an American pop and R&B singer born on November 17, 1987 in Bronx, New York. She grew up however in the Dominican Republic, making her speak fluently in Spanish and English. Among her early musical influences was Aretha Franklin, from whom she caught the singing bug.

When she was 12, Kat DeLuna joined singer Milly Quezada on stage to do a song number. She later attended the Arts High School in Newark, New Jersey, and auditioned in The Village Voice. Not long after, Kat DeLuna became part of the all-Latina R&B group Croquette. She wanted to be a solo artist though, and at 15, Kat DeLuna began to fulfill her dream and participated in a karaoke contest sponsored by Coca-Cola, in which she won. Upon winning the contest, she met and signed a deal with Global Music Brand, and as well as with Epic Records.

Kat DeLuna’s first album, 9 Lives, featured the hit single “Whine Up,” which became a popular tune in pop and dance music radio stations across the country. Her album hit the top of the charts overseas as well, making her a popular name in France. Her single was also the theme of the 2007 WWE Summer Slam, and later she won a “Latin Dance Club Play Track of the Year” award at the Latin Billboard Music Awards 2008. She also sang the US National Anthem at the Texas Stadium for the Monday Night Football game.

In 2009, Kat DeLuna released the single “Calling You”. Former Danity Kane member Dawn Richard then announced that she will be writing songs for Kat DeLuna’s next album. While busy recording songs, the singer filmed her music video “In the End,” which was only released in Europe. It soon was shown on YouTube, along with another video, “Am I Dreaming?”

Kat DeLuna’s next single, “Unstoppable,” became part of the soundtrack of Confessions of a Shopaholic. Her latest hit, “Dance Bailalo,” is considered to be the “single of the summer of 2009.” She is currently working on her next 2-cd English-Spanish album, Inside Out.
